Attorney Biography

san antonio-disability-attorney Why do I practice Social Security Disability Law?

My passion is disability law because as a child I never thought my mother would live past my 10th birthday. My mom Edna had cancer three times, suffered for years before beating it, and was left disabled as result of it. At age 12, I was diagnosed with scoliosis and wore a 40 pound leather and steel back brace for three years. Both of those experiences helped me to understand the suffering of a disabled person.

One of my first jobs as a lawyer was representing the disabled in their social security hearings. I saw what a difference the benefits made in the lives of so many people. During 1993 my father Bob Scalise, passed away after suffering from bone marrow cancer, no doubt due to his exposure to chemicals during his service in World War II. Today, so many veterans are coming home disabled as a result of their service in Afghanistan and Iraq. Very few attorneys are fighting for those veterans' rights to benefits for both Social Security and the Veteran's Administration. I have undergone additional training, and became accredited by the Veteran's Administration to handle denials of VA benefits, to help disabled vets.

Since I was first licensed by the Supreme Court of Texas in 1984, I have worked hard at honing my skills in advocating on behalf of the disabled. I am now licensed in every federal court in Texas and before the United States Supreme Court.

I am a proud graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, UTSA, and Texas Tech Law School.
